History of CSAs: A Movement

The Flagstaff CSA is part of a bigger movement across the nation. Over the past twenty years, Community Supported Agriculture has sown its seeds in the United States, growing to over 1700 CSAs nation wide.

The CSA philosophy made its way to the US from European and Japanese models and the first US CSAs began in the mid-eighties at Indian Line Farm in Massachusetts and Temple Wilton Community Farm in Massachusetts. These pioneering CSAs created a flexible model for small farmers throughout the US to make a living, preserve farm land, provide healthy food, and create community.
